  2. Grab their attention: Grabbing attention = Mastering the hook. But how do you craft a viral hook?

    1. Start with a powerful statement

    3. Sell the destination I know what you're thinking. "Isn't this clickbait?"If you deliver on your promise, it isn't.

      1. Use this Hook formula: 

        1. Write a Name/Topic + Powerful Statement

        2. Add Numbers to support the statement

        3. State the benefit for the reader Done

  3.  Raise the stakes Your second tweet after the hook, MUST:

    1. Create a CURIOSITY gap

    2. Raise the STAKES

    2. Close it FAST

    3. Create a new curiosity gap This makes them feel smart. Feeling smart = engaged

  5. Drive them to take action: Writing is like conducting a symphony. You need a distinctive tone to close it off. This closing tone is your call to action. Here’s how to write an irresistible CTA:

    1. Give them a reason to take action.

    2. Use words that provoke emotion.

    3. Use numbers when possible.

    1. Use bold colors that stand out from the rest of the page

    2. Use bold text

    3. Use a stylized shape for the button

  5. Position It Prominently Proper positioning is key. Here are some tips to make sure your CTA is easily seen by visitors:

    1. Place a CTA above the fold for immediate visibility

    2. Place your CTA near the bottom of the section/screen for easier thumb access on mobile

SEO 📈

Tony says he’s been auditing “niche sites” that have seen big drops in Google search traffic in the last 12 months.

Here are 10 things they almost all have in common

  1. Their site navigation is very basic. A few categories and that’s about it. Yet they have hundreds or thousands of articles. It’s really hard to find those articles just by navigating the site starting at the homepage.

  2. They look like a bunch of articles they wrote only for long-tail search traffic. There’s no overarching theme guiding them on their journey with the topic.

  3. No real strong author(s) on the site. Just a simple byline with a link to other articles they wrote. Give people a more compelling reason to trust you.

  4. They bury the goods. I have to scroll at least a few times to finally get to the information I’m actually wanting. If I wasn’t auditing, I would have bounced.

  5. Targeting outdated keywords. Search patterns change over time. People may use different words or Google auto-complete gets changed, and site owners don’t adapt.

  6. Related posts/links are not that related. Most related post plugins suck... Eg I’m reading an article about how to pick oranges, and it recommends one about the proper cooking temperatures for pork. Huh?

  7. The homepage is nothing but a list of recent posts. How’s that helpful for users who have a specific journey they are on and need help finding your great article? Make it easy to connect the topical dots.

  8. They’re wordy. It’s hard to skim. Most people don’t read every word. Concise sentences, paragraphs, and articles with some bolding of key info are what most people want and need in 2023.

  9. They’re targeting keywords AI will soon eat up. I’d rather have Google SGE, ChatGPT (or YouTube) give me clear steps on how to clean out my hot water heater tank. Not read a 1,500 word wall of text with way too much detail and history about hot water heaters.

  10. Their sub-headings are so boring and SEO’d. It’s easy to use ChatGPT do write helpful, engaging and keyword-driven sub-headings.

These are "thumbprints" I’ve seen in niche sites that were created to monetize search traffic. Their content may have helpful info but it’s all packaged up in a heavily SEO’d and non-user-friendly way.

Google seems to be getting better at finding and demoting sites like these

Podcast 📈

Matt says so many people assume starting a podcast is a complex journey. In reality, you just need the right guidance and tools.

He breaks down the essential steps you need to start a podcast that’ll reach thousands of people in the first 30 days:

30-Day Breakdown:
